Expendables 2 Scotiabank Theatre Toronto premiere

Expendables 2 Scotiabank Theatre Toronto premiere
Today my wife and I drove more than an hour from Square One in Mississauga to the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto, on account of the movie passes we got for the Expendables 2 premiere at 7.30pm, courtesy of Alliance Films. What a fucking waste of time it was to be... and I'm not even talking about the movie...

When we arrived at 6.20pm, we saw a queue that stretched outside the building, all the way around the corner of the block. Still, we parked and hoped for the best, as we joined the waited patiently in line, knowing that we've made it early enough and there were at least 100 people behind us as we inched closer to the doors.

As we stood in queue, we were in good spirits, entertaining passersby who kept asking what we're waiting for.

"Is this the queue for Total Recall?" - That was last week, pal.

"Is this the queue for Batman Imax?" - That was last month, pal.

Haha!

Eventually at about 7.15pm when we reached the redemption table, the guy told us that all the tickets had "run out half an hour ago" and that now they're just "processing people".  We were instead given replacement movie passes for another day but it was clear we weren't going to be watching The Expendables 2 tonight.

Now I know that the passes don't guarantee entry, but I wondered why they had done such a gross miscalculation and to had have to turned so many away. Some of the people who received the consolation passes were still thinking that it was for tonight.

We were very disappointed but before leaving, I wanted to use the toilet so we went upstairs to the cinema anyway. There we saw a few bodyguards and stage area. It was Randy Couture. I had half my mind to ask him if he could get us in. Then I saw Terry Crews as well. So this was what all the fuss was about. They were whisked away by security at the end of what appeared to be a big promo event.

Randy Couture. If only he could get us in.
Back downstairs as we left, Mr Crew and Mr Couture were making their way to the limo. Apparently they don't stay for the movie. Who knows, maybe they'll return to the hall after a few drinks.

As the limo whirred away and we made our way back to the parking lot, I felt a stab of sadness that we didn't get to see the show. I guess it's thanks to Alliance Films for coming up with the replacement tickets but for me, this must be the first time in my life I went to a premiere for the movie and didn't get to see it.

Sucks to be me.

Oh well, let's go to Chinatown for some supper.
